Replacing a Leaning Mailbox After Vehicle Damage With a New Locking Mailbox Installation
A leaning mailbox is usually a sign that something underneath has failed. In this case, the homeowners’ mailbox had previously been struck by a vehicle, leaving the entire post leaning and unstable.
While the mailbox was still technically standing, the foundation underneath had shifted enough that a simple repair wasn’t going to be the right long-term solution. The homeowners wanted a mailbox that looked clean, stood straight, and offered better security than the original setup.
Removing the Existing Mailbox and Damaged Foundation
The first step was removing the existing mailbox and post assembly.
The original mailbox had been mounted onto a concrete foundation measuring approximately 24” x 24” x 6”. Because the impact had compromised the installation, the old foundation needed to be completely removed before a new post could be installed properly.
Using demolition tools, I broke apart the existing concrete base and hauled away the debris to prepare the area for a fresh installation.
This is one of the most important parts of replacing a damaged mailbox post. If the original concrete foundation has shifted, cracked, or weakened, installing a new mailbox on top of the old base can eventually lead to the same problems returning.
Preparing and Pouring a New Concrete Foundation
Once the old material was removed, I prepared the site for a brand-new concrete foundation.
A properly installed mailbox starts below ground level. The strength of the foundation directly impacts how well the mailbox holds up over time against weather, vibration, daily use, and accidental impacts.
After prepping the area, a new concrete base was poured and allowed to fully cure before installing the new mailbox post.
Taking the extra time to rebuild the foundation correctly helps ensure the final installation stays solid, level, and secure long term.

With the new post securely installed, I mounted a new Mail Boss Mail Manager Pro locking mailbox to complete the project.

The final result was a straight, solid, permanently mounted locking mailbox that completely transformed the original damaged setup.
