From Loose and Unsecured to Permanently Anchored: A Mailbox Upgrade Built to Last

For this project the homeowner had a non-locking mailbox sitting on top of a cinder block directly on the sidewalk. While it technically worked, their mail was not secure, the entire setup could easily be moved, tipped over, or even carried away. There was no permanent anchoring, no real stability, and no long-term durability.

The homeowner wanted something that felt secure, clean, and built to stay put.

Removing the Old Mailbox Setup

The first step was removing the entire existing installation, including:

  • The cinder block base
  • The old post
  • The existing mailbox

Once everything was cleared out, we prepared the concrete surface for a more permanent installation.

Securely Anchoring a New Mailbox Post

Instead of using another temporary setup, we installed a steel mailbox post and permanently anchored it directly into the concrete using heavy-duty wedge anchors.

This type of installation creates a much stronger foundation compared to freestanding mailbox setups. The post is mechanically fastened into the concrete, helping prevent movement, wobbling, or shifting over time.
